The Buyer I will assist with supplier management duties and will monitor performance based on quality, delivery, and lead-time metrics. Duties will also include working with the engineering and production teams to ensure communication of needs to suppliers and internal operations are accurate and timely. Strong analytic and problem-solving abilities, negotiation skills, project management, consensus building, interpersonal relationship skills, and risk management as it pertains to supply chain are important for this position. This individual will provide upper management with timely information on program performance, material acquisition, and cost/schedule objectives.

Essential Job Duties

  • Performs all jobs duties under the direction and oversight of the Procurement Manager.
  • Initiate purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools
  • Arrange for submission and inspection of sample products/tools as required
  • Assist Engineering department for needed prototype material and pricing
  • Secure and analyze quotations, negotiate prices and terms with suppliers, and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities
  • Meet with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management; negotiate prices and delivery terms
  • Coordinate the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services based on materials requirement planning (MRP) and financial resources
  • Manage MRP for expediting or delay of orders, and material control task
  • Track and maintain proper levels of stocked inventory
  • Verify, analyze, and adjust inventory for safety, reorder points, MOQ, quantity on hand, buyer code, procurement status, and standard cost
  • Coordinate international shipments with freight forwarder and vendor
  • Process vendor returns in a timely matter
  • Update management team on delayed shipments, shortages, issues, and new sourced vendors
  • Acts as the main point of contact in the absence of the procurement manager

Job Requirements

  • Degree or Certification in association with procurement/supply management
  • 2+ years purchasing experience
  • Knowledge of ERP software
  • Knowledge of material requirement planning (MRP) software
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and meets deadlines
  • High attention to detail, ensures accuracy in completion of work
  • Excellent communicator including facilitation, verbal, and written skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to the degree necessary to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Valid and clear driver license, due to infrequent business travel
  • Must be able to sit for full shift, with some bending, squatting, lifting
  • Knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
