Making the switch to a built-in MP3 Player

May 27th, 2009Posted by alexj in News

With the upcoming launch of the Liberty Platinum in June, our transition from a built-in CD player to the new built-in MP3 player for our portable PA systems will be complete…muh-ha-ha-ha…(cough) I mean YEAH!!! We do have some future plans for integrating an MP3 player in the rest of our product line, but for now only the Beacon and the new Liberty Platinum will have the MP3 player option available. So why did we kick the CD player to the curb? Well the answer to that question is three-fold.

Popularity

Let’s face it. We live in a digital world and we are digital guys and girls. With the emergence of the MP3 format, music has become digital and can now travel with you using your choice of portable storage devices or be shared socially with friends. People are now downloading music at increasing rates, and CDs will eventually join the likes of those big black bricks we called VHS tapes. Now this might not happen for awhile because heck I still buy CDs once in awhile. However, I do quickly rip them onto my computer for easy access and no longer have a need for the CD itself.

Ease of Use

Just like the Apple iTunes store gives you quick and easy access to all your favorite music, the new Anchor Audio MP3 player allows for a quick and easy way to play that music through our portable PA systems. Wow did I just compare Anchor Audio to Apple! So not only are we sucking up to all the digital audio users, but we are making it even easier for them to play their music through our sound systems. All you have to do is drag and drop your MP3 or WMA files onto a USB drive and plug that into the MP3 player. The player quickly recognizes the USB stick and starts playing your music. Now that is pretty darn simple.

Flexibility

By putting your music files on a USB drive you now have the flexibility to delete and organize these files quicker and easier then you would burning them onto a CD. Some CD formats don’t even let you delete files at all, bummer! But don’t worry. We didn’t completely kick CDs to the curb. We have kept the 3.5mm audio input jack that allows you to plug in a CD walkman or other portable audio devices to play your music through our sound systems. We even provide the cable needed to connect these other audio devices to our PA systems when you opt for the MP3 player option.

So those are our reasons and we’re sticking to them. In all seriousness though, we feel this upgrade meets the requirements of the 21st century, but more importantly gives you a more user friendly sound system that will play all your audio files no matter the format.
