How To: Replace the battery in your Explorer or Voyager system

July 15th, 2008Posted by Steve Tipon in Featured, How To

Due to the popularity of our “How to Replace the Battery in Your Liberty or MegaVox Pro” post a few months ago, we felt it was time for the Explorer Pro to have it’s turn in the spotlight. So we grabbed the camera and snapped a couple of pictures to help illustrate the correct procedure on how to replace a dead battery in your Explorer Pro or Voyager systems. For your convenience there are two versions of the procedures – HTML or PDF.

Hello, I am about to replace the batteries in my Liberty and I was just wondering if there is any way to retrofit Lithium Ion batteries in the case? I know they would certainly lighten the load and probably offer better performance. I know it would be expensive, but I’d like to know if it’s possible.

Have you ever thought about using Lithium Ion in production or is it cost prohibitive? I would love to hear what Anchor has to say.

    Thanks.
(I’ve been using a Liberty and an Extreme for almost 10 years now.)

    Jim,

That is a great question. We have thought about using Lithium Ion batteries in the past, but as you know they come with a very high price tag. A price we feel would not benefit our Anchor Audio users. As far as retrofitting Lithium Ion batteries in a Liberty case, our current battery circuitry was not designed to support Lithium Ion’s so unfortunately that will not work.

Thank you for the comment and for your continued support of Anchor Audio sound systems.

    Greetings!

It seems that when my Explorer Pro gets put back in the case with the power switch left ON, it drains the battery and kills it permanantly. I followed the battery-restoration instructions in the manual, but it didn’t help. I have to replace the battery for the second time now for this reason! Should leaving the Explorer Pro switched ON for an extended period kill the battery permanently?

I have an older Explorer PB-2500 that I bought (used)about a week ago.The trouble I am having is that when I plug in the the A/C power cord to charge it, the led stays lit solid for about 5 minutes and then starts flashing.A flashing light is supposed to mean fully charged, but when I unplug the A/C power and switch the unit on,the led lights up and immediately dims and goes off. I don’t think its the battery because when I took it out to replace it I put my meter on it and got a reading of 12.45VDC.Any ideas,suggestions,and/or schematics would be most appreciated

    Dear Bryan

Your battery may still have a problem. You should load down the battery with a 20 ohm 20 watt resistor or a car tail light and then measure the battery. Should the battery drop toward 10 volts under load your battery is worn out. If the battery still appears good, you probably have a bad power output IC. I have attached a schematic of your unit.
