Anchor Audio Rocks and Rolls in San Diego

June 3rd, 2009Posted by alexj in Events

This past Sunday was the 12th annual Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon in San Diego, CA. While in attendance aimlessly wandering the course and shouting slogans at the runners, something caught my eye or should I say my ear. A booth that was setup around the 13 mile mark was using a couple of our Liberty 6000 portable PA systems to project announcements and words of encouragement to the over 20,000 marathon runners. I then felt compelled to capture the entire event, with pictures, to share with you today.

For those not familiar, the Rock ā€˜N’ Roll marathon is a really cool event. At each mile marker during the race they have a live band performing on stage and some of the runners get dressed up in crazy outfits like Elvis costumes or big giant afros (pictures below).

The 26.2 mile course began in Balboa Park, ran through Hillcrest and skirts the San Diego Zoo. Runners then took an expanded tour of downtown featuring Petco Park, the historic Gaslamp Quarter, and the San Diego Harbor. Following the downtown excursion, the course travels up beautiful Highway 163 and races by the bayside communities, Sea World and ends at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Point Loma.

All in all, with easily over 100,000 people in attendance, the marathon was a huge success. It was great to see our sound systems being used there and hopefully we will represent again next year. Maybe we should get some of our staff to run in it as well, what do you think about that?
